How high up can an inguinal hernia occur?

An inguinal hernia occurs when an organ or tissue protrudes through a weakness in the abdominal muscles. It can occur in the inguinal canal and can extend up to the scrotum in males. 

You may be able to notice the bulge either in your groin area or pubic bone. It can cause discomfort, especially when you cough, or lift a heavy object.
