what causes varicose veins?

Some potential causes of varicose veins are obesity, standing or sitting for long periods of time, and family history. It occurs due to the increased blood pressure in the veins.

The veins in your body have only one-way valves so that the blood can travel in only one direction. Varicose veins mostly affect the legs. For the lower body part, blood has to flow against gravity. Hence, valves have more work to do to regulate the blood flow. Due to which, valves get weaker, and blood begins to accumulate in the veins instead of pushing it towards your heart. This causes varicose veins.
